Turfhill Court, New Deer
Turfhill Court, Main Street, New Deer, was built in 1987. It comprises 12 two person two apartment (one bedroom) flats, of which 6 are ground floor and 6 are first floor. Although the first floor flats have stair access, stair lifts are provided at each stair for access for the benefit of residents. The flats are located at the rear of the scheme and in the building facing onto Main Street there are a number of communal facilities and the Resident
Scheme Manager's Flat. Communal facilities include a residents’ lounge and kitchen, laundry, shower-room and disabled persons toilet along with a guest bedroom and
Scheme Manager's office.
Electric storage and panel heaters heat all properties, and there is a Scheme
Manager Call system and Fire Alarm system throughout. Externally the grounds at the scheme are attractively landscaped and maintained by a gardener employed by Castlehill.
The Resident Scheme Manager who lives at the scheme, works alongside a Relief
Scheme Manager who lives locally. When Scheme Manager Staff are off duty, support for residents is provided by the Community Alarm Scheme and local volunteers who may be called on to respond in an emergency.
New Deer itself is a large village with a Health Centre with four doctors in practice, chemist, chiropodist and hairdressers. There is also a church, bank, post office, supermarket, butcher and various other shops. For social activities there is a Friendship Club every Thursday in the public hall and both indoor and outdoor bowling. Day Care facilities are also available every Wednesday in New Pitsligo to which transport is available.
Public transport is available to Peterhead and Ellon with connections to Aberdeen twice a day. There is also a local ' Dial a Bus ' service, which provides specialised door to door transport for elderly and disabled people who have difficulty using public transport.
