Mackay Court, Rhynie

The sheltered housing scheme at Mackay Court, Main Street, Rhynie was built in 1986 and consists of 13 flats and one cottage. In the main block building where the flats are located there is also a residents lounge and kitchen on the ground floor. There is also a laundry with washing machines and tumble dryers and a guest bedroom where tenants' relatives or friends can stay overnight for a small charge.

All properties have central heating supplied from a communal oil fired boiler. There is also lift access to both floors in the main block and a door entry system at the main entrance. There is a Scheme Manager call system and fire alarm system throughout the scheme.

The Resident Scheme Manager who lives at the scheme works in conjunction with the Relief Scheme Manager. They are on duty at certain times during the day and 'on call' during the night. When Scheme Manager staff are not on duty, support for tenants is provided through the Community Alarm scheme that can initiate appropriate action to assist.

In Rhynie there is a Post Office in the village shop, which also provides groceries, bakery products and newspapers. There is also a local Medical Practice and banking facilities are available two mornings each week. A library van also calls at Mackay Court each week. The village petrol station also has a general store.

Public transport to Huntly which is 10 miles away is available twice each day Monday-Friday and once each day on Saturdays. Transport by bus is also available to Aberdeen every Wednesday leaving Rhynie in the morning and returning from Aberdeen late afternoon. A taxi service is also available at the local petrol station.
