Talk Money week

This week is Talk Money Week the campaign encouraging us to break the silence around finances. This can feel awkward, but it’s one of the most important conversations we can have, especially in the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.

Money isn’t just about funds in the bank, it’s about confidence, resilience and even mental health. Research shows that people who openly discuss money make better financial decisions, feel less stressed, and are more in control of their lives.

This year’s theme is Do One Thing. That could mean checking your pension details, cancelling an unused subscription, or sitting down to make a simple budget. Just one small step can give you a boost and often leads to another.

Talking about money doesn’t have to mean revealing every detail of your bank account. It can be as simple as sharing a tip with a colleague, asking a question you’ve been unsure about, or just admitting, “This is a bit tough right now.”

If you’re looking for support, remember there are options, contact the financial inclusion team at the council and SCARF.

Let’s make money conversations as normal as chatting about the weather – being financially able is about more than money; it’s about wellbeing.
